Custom caps, bucket hats and beanies: choose for the conditions

A hat can make volunteers recognisable in a crowd or become part of a colleague’s daily commute. It is also a personal choice: some people keep one on for hours, while others remove it as soon as they go indoors. Season, setting and wearing habits matter as much as your brand colour.

Shape affects comfort and what gets in the way

A cap’s peak extends in front of the face; a bucket hat has a brim all the way round. They feel different when worn with glasses or when the wearer looks up. A beanie answers a different seasonal need, with the feel against the forehead and ears also worth considering. For a varied audience, look at the adjustment or stated circumference: “unisex” does not mean one size will suit everyone. A hat intended to live in a bag also needs a construction suited to the way it will be packed.

For a day in the sun, use the documented characteristics of the chosen model. Shape or fabric alone cannot establish a level of UV protection.

Small artwork needs a clear priority

A phrase that reads well on a T-shirt can become illegible on the front of a cap. Keep the element people need to recognise first and reduce unnecessary detail. A centre seam, panels or the turn-up of a beanie affects the usable area. Embroidery needs to be assessed against the exact artwork and material, rather than selected simply because the item is textile.

Identify a team without prescribing a complete outfit

Shared headwear can connect otherwise different clothes. If you combine it with team T-shirts or branded jackets, choose colours that work together and branding that can be seen during use. Find suitable headwear for your wearers with Today Merch.
