Personalised hoodies: design for the way people wear them

A hoodie handed out after an away day might become the layer someone takes on their morning commute or a cool evening. Earning that place starts with the recipient’s habits: wearing it on its own, under a jacket, open at a desk or as the main piece in a branded clothing collection.

A zip changes more than the front of the garment

A full zip lets the wearer remove a layer without pulling it over their head, or open it when they come indoors. It also divides the front: a large continuous graphic needs a different treatment from one on a pullover hoodie. A generous fit adds volume, which matters under a jacket. Assess the combination with the T-shirt worn underneath, using the actual measurements of both garments.

The hood is part of the artwork layout

Resting on the shoulders, the hood may cover the top of a back design. Artwork placed too high can lose its headline or logo when worn. At the front, pockets and seams also define the space available. Lay out the design at garment scale, then consider it with the hood down and arms relaxed. A position that looks right on a flat image may look quite different on a person.

If the outfit already includes a hooded jacket, or needs less bulk around the neck, consider a sweatshirt without a hood. The decision is as much about comfortable layering as the look.

Make the gift feel like something the recipients would choose

A subtle logo and a bold collection graphic appeal in different ways. Ask a few future wearers to respond to the proposed direction before developing every size. You choose the garment and artwork; Today Merch assesses how they work together and supports production. Tell us how your hoodie will be worn and the look you have in mind.
