One main compartment or separate dishes?

A single container leaves space for a main meal. Several compartments or tiers can organise different foods, but also mean more pieces to store and clean. For a team with varied eating habits, that decision is more useful than a difference of a few millilitres. Meals carried with a sauce also call for confirmation of the model’s leak resistance, including between sections: separate compartments are not necessarily sealed from one another.

The box needs to fit in an everyday bag alongside the recipient’s other belongings. Consider height as well as width, particularly if you are creating a set with an insulated lunch bag. The usable space in the bag must accommodate both the box and any planned accessories.

Access to a microwave and washing facilities at work affects what people need. Reheating and cleaning instructions apply to the exact model, and may differ for the body and lid. A material or fastening alone does not establish suitability for either use.

Before adding personalised cutlery, look at what is already supplied: a second set only helps if it has a separate purpose. For branding, favour an area that remains legible with the box closed and keeps clear of the fastenings.
